M for Melbourne

"The rebranding of the City of Melbourne is a great example of a well-constructed identity system. It is incredibly complex and simple at the same time, and gives the city a vibrant, design-forward mien that was lacking in the previous identity." With these lines Designisms (a blog about contemporary design) welcomes the new identity for the city of Melbourne designed by Landor Associates. I couldn't agree more.

Self portrait

The person behind the poster is Gabriel Ebensperger. He says that when he was drawing the poster he was being honest. He wasn't being honest when he was photoshoping his background though. Anyhow, I think this is one of the most clever and original self portraits I have seen. Gabriel is from Chile and you can see more of his work here.

I miss Trevor Burks

"After studying abroad I had to leave one of my best friends in Minneapolis. As a joke I produced t-shirts and posters to give to my friends back home, so when ever I missed Trevor they’d put them on and pretend to be him." says Rob Matthews.

On rentre à l'heure où les oiseaux chantent

I just ordered this book! It is by a young photographer from France.
"Yves Drillet is a young upcoming photographer born in the nineties, studying at the Fine Art Institute of Rennes, France. Even if his photography follows Larry Clark, Ari Marcopoulos or Ed Tempelton footsteps, Yves Drillet gives us a fascinating documentary on his contemporaries. Beyond the portraits, the parties or some empty landspaces, the photography of this artist reveals above all the strong and sincere vision of a 19 year-old boy's modern world."
This is where I bought it from: Kaugummi Books. Check out their catalogue!

Alexandros Georgiou

Alexandros Georgiou (born in 1972) is a Greek artist. His work is about experience, identity and exploration. This picture is from his series "Without my own vehicle". For that project he traveled from Istanbul (Turkey) to Varanasi (India) via Iran and Pakistan, using public transportation and recording the knowledge he obtained. At the moment Alexandros is in Varanasi again, but for another project. Georgiou is represented by Eleni Koroneou Gallery in Athens.

BUXEY.COM

BUXEY.COM are Warner Damen, a filmmaker and Geert Jan Bijlstra, an Art Director from Amsterdam. Their website has not been updated since 2007, but it contains a collection of images of everyday men in California that is worth checking. Buxey are interested in "male aesthetics" but without the glossy models. As they say "It's purpose is to show a broader range of feelings than just libido."

You and I where high

On Yann Faucher's website there is a beautiful description of his work. I'm quoting:
"Here are some of the 1/125sec testimonials of what some life can be, memories or mirrors for a period of 3 years, mixed feelings of love, joy, intimacy, quietness, loneliness, fear and finally everything but love. How not having enough to learn something about us. it's time now to make the virtuality collapse, lucky star and lovely moons... here comes the moment of present and reality." Here's the site

Mio Padre

Photo by Alessandro Maria Nacar. I found this picture on his blog. All the text is in Italian but that is not a big problem even if you don't speak Italian. His pictures don't really need any supporting text.

The face of Berlin

Zeynel, originally uploaded by facity.

Facity is a great project by Kerem Ergün and Hannes Caspar. It is an on-line calendar picturing the face of Berlin. One different face for each day. Check it out here.

genetic suit

This is my first post. I chose this image I found today on Flickr. It is by Elijah Northen an American architect. The picture is called "genetic suit" and I think is the best image to start this blog, fake and sentimental.
